Committed to ____________
In defining truth, it is first helpful to note what truth is not:
• Some say Truth is simply whatever _________.
• Some say Truth is must be __________________ or _____________________.
• Some say Truth is what makes people _________ __________.
• Some say Truth is what the ______________ agrees to.
• Some say Truth is what is ___________________________.
• Some say Truth is defined by what is __________________.
• Some say Truth is _______ we know, or _____________________ only.
• Some say Truth is simply what is _________________.
• Some say Truth is what is publicly _______________.

The Greek word for “truth” is aletheia, which literally means to “un-hide” or “hiding nothing.” It conveys the thought that truth is always there, always open and available for all to see, with nothing being hidden or obscured.
The Hebrew word for “truth” is emeth, which means “firmness”, “faithfulness“, constancy” and “duration.”
Both Greek and Hebrew words convey the idea that there is a firm reality behind every appearance, and we must seek that reality.
In short, truth is simply telling it like it is; it is the way things really are, so that any other viewpoint is false or wrong.

What truth did the Apostles teach in the early church?

• They did not have the doctrine of ___________.
•They did not have the prophecy of __________.
• They did not have the practical wisdom of ___________.
They had only the stories of the life of Jesus and His words as told through the Apostle’s eyewitness accounts and understood considering the Old Testament.
When the people were devoted to the Apostle’s teaching, they were learning how Jesus fulfilled what the Old Testament taught. The Truth of Jesus Christ is the foundation of all truth, especially for the church.

Matthew 16:15-18
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
